The Vermont Action Coalition, acting on the recommendations of the Institute of Medicine (2010) and the Vermont Blue Ribbon Commission on Nursing (2012), seeks to fully engage Vermont nurses in our evolving health care system. By understanding specific health care challenges and needs, nurses are working with diverse stakeholders to create innovative solutions.
Campaign goals:
1. Ensure nursing representation on committees and boards involved with health care and health care reform by promoting and making available leadership training and mentoring.
2. Increase the proportion of nurses with baccalaureate in nursing degrees (BS or BSN) to 80% by 2022.
Future of Nursing Campaign
Vermont’s Future of Nursing campaign is made possible by a $150,000 grant through the Future of Nursing State Implementation Program (SIP) sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF). Vermont is one of only seven states to receive a second two-year grant through the program, and is honored to receive the maximum award amount. The mission of the national Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action is to build a Culture of Health through nursing. A joint initiative of AARP and RWJF, the Campaign is working to implement the Institute of Medicine’s (IOM) evidence-based recommendations on the future of nursing. It provides a vehicle for nurses and nurse champions to lead change that will support healthy communities through collaboration with health care, businesses, consumers, and other stakeholders. We thank our sponsors for their generous support.
